The concept of dating is about as old as the automobile. Nowadays we are so used to it that we might not be able to imagine any other approach to relationships. Dating and Courtship both involve partners. The major difference is what is to be achieved from it. Let's clarify what's most familiar to most people out there. I made it sound like courtship and dating were kinda the same things. This is a huge difference between courtship and dating! The sad thing.

They may talk on the phone and exchange text messages, e-mails, flowers and letters. It doesn't have a set time frame, but a couple may go on as few as one or two dates before they decide to stop dating. Both people in the dating relationship know that it may not last long. Couples who are courting, however, know that they will continue to see one another for a longer period of time.
They engage in the same activities as a dating couple, but their courtship doesn't stop after just a few dates.
Intended Outcome A courting couple intends to become engaged and get married. They know that their relationship is intended to be long-term and permanent. A couple that is dating may not have any specific expectations for their relationship.
And I remember being distracted that night, too. So, yeah, the point of courtship is pretty closely related to marriage!

Accountability Ahh… this is what courtship is mostly known for. The sad thing is that most people tend to stay away from courtship because this reason really does have so much to do with it. But they also tend to put a bad light on it, like what I stated above. But in reality, the people you ask to keep you accountable are just making sure you stay within the boundaries that either you or your parents put into place for the relationship.
I and my boyfriend or girlfriend are mature enough to make decisions like that together.
We both want to honor the Lord in our relationship. In a dating relationship, self-gratification is normally the basis of the relationship.

This oblivious self-centeredness can lead only to dissatisfaction, promoting an attitude of lust taking what I want rather than the Scriptural attitude of love putting others above yourself and protecting them from impurity.
Consequently, dating opens the door to many temptations. A courting couple can avoid numerous temptations by the choice to be held accountable to God-given authorities.
This put a new spin on the focus of relationships, and short-term relationships became commonplace.

With this mentality, a person who dates successfully breaks up with everyone in his life except for one person and this is supposed to be good preparation for a successful marriage. Of course, the majority of relationships do not end in marriage, but some become so intimate and intense that the couple might as well be married. If a breakup occurs, then they experience a sort of emotional divorce.
It is not uncommon that by the time a person is married, he feels like he has already been through five divorces.

Whether we admit it or not, the world has molded our views of preparing for marriage. We need to seriously ask ourselves: Perhaps you are burned out from the dating scene anyway, and could use a breath of fresh air.
Either way, I suggest a return to the principles of courtship. When I first heard of the resurgence of Christian courtship, I was skeptical.
So if I want to spend time with a girl, I have to arrange for our families to go to a pumpkin patch together, followed by an exciting evening of board games, and then go home by seven.
